THE CIVILIZATION OF MAXWELL BRIGHT

"The Civilization of Maxwell Bright", a digital feature from veteran director David Beaird, stars Marie, Patrick Warburton, Carol Kane, Nora Dunn, Jennifer Tilly, Kurt Fuller, Simon Callow, John Glover and Eric Roberts. The 31-day shoot wrapped and hit the festival circuit, garnering a few awards along the way:

Boulder IFF
Worldfest Houston IFF (Special Jury Award!)
Seattle (SIFF)
Florida Film Festival (Grand Jury Award)

as well as Austin Film Festival, Milwaukee International Film Festival, Cinequest and Palm Springs. But the icing on the cake this year is when you get to go with your film to Cannes.

For those of you who didn't see it there, here's a trailer that some faithful fans found on YouTube! Enjoy!

"Diggers" at SIFF

Speaking of SIFF, Marie loves Seattle in general, and the international film community that haunts the town in the summer in particular. For this reason, she found an excuse to attend this year.

2005's IFP Spotlight Award Grant winner Cheryl Slean brings her moving short film Diggers to the "Northwest Ties" program at the Egyptian Theatre, Monday, June 04, 7:00 PM.

Marie's role? One of a handful of grave diggers who dabble in the meaning of mortality - more specifically "
What do you talk about while digging a grave?"

DATE MOVIE Trailers Online

"Date Movie", from the writers of "Scary Movie" (no, not those, the other guys... just two of them, actually), opens February 17th, and the first trailers are online at Yahoo!. Not much Marie footage in the first trailer, although you can clearly hear her shriek "Get Crunked!" as Lil' John throws a glass in front of her in the shot.

MARIE IN YOLK

Marie's multi-page pictorial and interview in YOLK Magazine

It hit the newsstands 2/27/02, and it provides an in-depth discussion on the current state of Asian artists in Hollywood, the need to mentor new talent — and a few pages of eye candy for the guys.
"I was wondering for a long time why does it pay to be good. Lots of times when you’re good, people just step on you and kick your ass. I’m trying to find that balance."

AN ACADEMIC SUBJECT

Courtney's long since graduated Arizona State University, but her paper on Marie for her Asian Pacific American Studies course still lives on.

For those that feel that the biography on the site has some holes in it, give Courney's a look - it may have filled them!
